2 – Preparing for the procedure

Since the procedure is performed under local anesthesia (you will not be put to sleep), no special laboratory tests are required.

Have a hearty breakfast on the day of the procedure but try to limit fluid consumption. You will be asked to empty your bladder just before the reversal. Once you have done so, you will not urinate for the next three hours. Do not drink too many fluids before the procedure, as excessive fluids may cause your bladder to become uncomfortably full.

Shower and wash your hair before leaving home, since a shower will not be permitted until two days following your procedure. The scrotum need not be shaved, for we will shave the scrotum for you. Do not apply powder, creams, or antiperspirant to your genital area on the day of the procedure.

Be sure someone drives you home or back to your hotel. Although the driver is not required to wait around during the procedure, he or she should pick you up three hours later. Partners are welcome to sit in and watch the reversal. Bring a camera if you would like to document the occasion!

If you take blood thinner medication such as Aspirin, Coumadin, Pradaxa, Xarelto, Plavix, or Eliquis, let us know.
